NCH & ABT was established in August of 2011.
After attending a United Blood trackers presentation and becoming a member. That is when the early conditioning for future training began for Mac who was 9 weeks old at that time. That is also when we got two books,
Tracking Dogs for finding Wounded Deer and Dead On
both by, John Jeanneney. You can find these at www.born-to-track.com
Time has shown that these books are two tools that have proved priceless as they are full of knowledge and tips by the best in the business.
NCH then got professional tracking equipment through UBT
www.unitedbloodtrackers.org
N.C.Houndonarope started by putting out artificial blood lines and worked with the dog to focus on that particular line. Then NCH stepped up to tracking with less blood and scent shoes by Waidwerk while incorporating as many weather conditions, types of terrain, and time of day as possible. The scent shoes are used to put out a line with less and less blood, they use the inter-digital gland located between the cloven huffs of the deer that releases the scent from the individual deer. This trains the dog to follow both the blood/wound scent as well as the track that was permeated by the this gland. This allows you to be able to track a deer when there is little to no visible blood. This training as allowed ABT to be able to assist sportsmen and women in recovering animals that without a dog could have gone uncovered. NCH-Train to Track is all about helping sportsmen and women and providing a service to enrich their hunting experience.
North Carolina's - Houndonarope has also gone on tracks were the animal was not recovered but the dog worked the line out past the hunters point of lost, where the hunter and tracker could make an educated decision by reading the signs on the trail being tracked behind the dog that the deer was not fatally wounded. With numerous training lines and natural tracks completed NCH then went to Wisconsin for United Blood Trackers track-fest where we were able to be evaluated by judges and became,UBT-2 with Scent-Shoes, Certified.
